![]() ![]() “Henry had my back, man, they didn’t hire brothers in those days,” he added, referring to the mid-1960s when Universal was skeptical about trusting a Black composer with an orchestral film score. Jones, 89, added: “I wouldn’t have been a film composer without Sidney Poitier, Sidney Lumet and Henry Mancini,” he said. He connected with people and they with him. He was a child of the big-band era so he knew that school of writing very well. People picked up right away on the broad humanity in his music. ![]() “Things like this, ‘Peter Gunn,’ and those wonderful songs. “He had a wonderful, populist touch,” Williams told Variety after the session. He not only performed on the “Peter Gunn” soundtrack album – which won the very first Album of the Year Grammy – he also played piano on the weekly scores for “Gunn,” a private-eye series that ran on NBC, and later ABC, from 1958 to 1961. Williams, 90, was the only member of the band who was actually at the original “Peter Gunn” recording sessions 64 years ago. Williams and Jones called each other “Q” and “John T.,” the nicknames they had when the two were toiling side-by-side at Universal Television in the 1960s, before each started collecting Oscars and Grammys for their work in films and records. We got there right at 10 when they opened. It was old home week for many, who seemingly spent half the three-hour session embracing, laughing and snapping photos. The hostess seated us and we saw 4 open booths so we asked if we could sit in one. She said no, those are for people who make reservations. Meanwhile another foursome came over and was seated at the table next to us. They sat for 5 minutes and asked if they could be moved to a booth, and to our shock and horror she gave them a booth.Įmily, our waitress saved the day. She was fabulous in every sense of the word, her eyes danced when she smiled, she was professional, friendly, sincerely apologetic when the kitchen had a snafu. ![]() Thank God for Emily, because we were certainly feeling slighted from Britna's rude, dismissive behavior toward us. We were finished eating by 11:16 when a party of two was seated at the second of four booths. There were two remaining booths which were still empty as we departed. I would like to see your policy which clearly indicates that booths are strictly for people with reservations. Sad to say I'm leaving a three, but it's as objective as I could be. Parking is a plus, usually plenty unless there is a big event on the property. The view is really breathtaking from certain seats, you see the whole Boston skyline from a distance. Overall looks like a high end country club dining area. Unfortunately, I can't really say much about the food. The good news is that I really don't have much negative or positive to say. The prices are pretty standard in my opinion. However the selection lacks, as does the quality for most dishes. The flat bread pizza can't be customized which means they must be pre assembled by someone else. I will go on record saying they are pretty good if you don't have any expectations of adding or removing anything. It seems the desserts may also be made elsewhere, probably a local baker. I definitely would say this is a good place to get together for the atmosphere over the food or drinks. Which again are not bad, but just leave me wishing there were more options. Visited Port 305 for our mother’s birthday and couldn’t have asked for a better visit. It was a bit overcast when we arrived but then the sun came out and such a beautiful spot to sit and enjoy family and a great meal. Everyone enjoyed their meals and not one complaint. ![]()
